I'd go with Ross. I've experienced both schools and I came away more impressed with Ross. Also the 50-75% scholly is significant as it eases the burden financially. I also feel that Ross is on the upswing and will soon be mentioned with the likes of Wharton, Kellogg, etc. Good luck with the decision - it must be a nice position to be in. They're both great schools and you can't really go wrong either way.

I think it was a true hypothetical. ...

Two years later, a GSB's alumus will announce that he or she will donate $200M.

Seriously, I don't think Ross will be mentioned at the same level with Wharton, Kellogg.

Agreed. H/W/S/K/C aren't about to get dethroned.

I would also consider the role within consulting that you want to take on. Because Chicago is so known for quant, a lot of the consulting firms hire there for people to build models.

LOL. Where do you get this stuff?

Have BW forums been corrupting my mind again?

I apologize in advance, but if I go to HBS/Kellogg then potential employers will assume I have leadership skills and will treat me as such. If I go to Chicago/Wharton, I will be put in the data center and asked to get to work on the supercomputer, and don't talk to anyone. Sorry, but that is just how it is.

Ok just reading that out loud gave me a sense of how ridiculous it is. Or else I need to do more research and find the leadership track in IB that doesn't have to model...

Whoa....I never said any of those schools will be dethroned. I just feel that Ross is knocking on the door of becoming an ultra elite school. And not just because of the $100M donation but because people (recruiters, students) are starting to realize it has a top notch program.

It happens to all of us. But sooner or later everyone realizes that alot of what gets said on that forum is misinformation. Every time I spend time reading posts over there I feel like I have to take a shower.

You're just sad you are now labeled a "quant-grunt" and will be stuck in a dungeon doing financial models for the rest of your life. Sorry bud.

Depends if you already have a brand name school on your resume. If you have a top undergraduate school or graduate school on your resume, I would go with Ross, otherwise go with GSB.

Both schools will place you well in consulting. After 5-10 years, GSB won't help you over Ross.

GSB has the name though. You like BMWs over Toyotas?

I partially agree...for consulting both schools are great...but think of whether you want your alumni network to help you get into a corporate job in a few yrs or a pe shop ... look into which school has a better alumni network in which ultimate job field for you...
the GSB is no BMW and Ross is no Toyota...they are both hybrid cars, all about efficiency and about changing according to the markets they cater to.
it may seem like an oh so flashy world from the outside but trust me. I know people at the Ross that are absolute rock stars, and i feel I am not half as smart as them... the school will be a launching pad THAT IS ALL
you are who you are, you got to this point based on your own merit dont let the name of a school dictate your credibility or aptitude...it is the wrong approach to applying to b school... but this is just my opinion.

$ from Ross...how often do they give $ away? [#permalink]
i just got an offer with 20k per year (40k total) from Ross

I wonder how often they give $ away, what % of their entering class gets some $ (above 10k per year)?

how often do the elites and ultra elites give $?

i assume that 20k per year is a medium size scholarship, right?

anyone....
