i thought about B too, but then what does 'others' exactly refer to...characteristics or chimpanzees or humans...this kind of confused me and made me pick A as the answer....

I picked A by the process of elimination:

B: was confused with the use of "others"
C:monkey-like does not sound good to me...
D: no conjunction after a comma or in other words there is no proper continuity in the sentence...
E:very awkward

B maintains the sentence structure from the first part of the sentence and also the presence of the word 'those' makes it clear that it is referring to monkeys and so we infer that 'others' exclusively stands for characteristics.

Am I right....?

A here.

I have to agree that "others" in choice B is not clear.

B can be correct only if there is no comma before and.

I would go with E.

In A the pronoun "they" kinda implies the humans. Same with B, the others is not clear in reference.

E gives the parallel form by repeating some characteristics at the end.

Please let us know the correct answer.

I feel B should be the answer. others in B represents other than characteristics.

Buddies, "E" is wrong. It has a clear problem of APPLe and orange.
" and some characteristics similar as monkeys ". It is comapring characterisitcs with monkeys instead of "characterisitcs of monkeys"

In "B", "others" is a pronoun reference error. "C" is wrong because sentence tries to put stress upon MORE Resemblance to monkey than human characterisitcs which "C" cant maintain.

Correct answer can be either "A" or "D" ? I prefer to go with "D" because it is concise and clearly expressing the meaning.

Lets wait for official answer

Nice question and nice discussion. I would go with A on this one. The fight is definitely between A and B

B) as many pointed out, "others" seem to be ambiguous as it could refer to chimpanzees, characteristics or humans. I think the use of too many pronouns (2 times "those") in a very short sentence and the use of "others" in lieu to some ambiguous noun makes the sentence convoluted. I think "other characteristics" should be said instead of "others".
C) does not keep parallel structure.
D) the comma makes it unappropriate to use "in addition"
E) comparing "characteristics" to "monkeys"

Vivek, you are correct!

The answer is B!

IMO, I think this question is testing parallelism.

Here is my question.

Chimpanzees have some characteristics similar to those of humans, and others similar to those of monkeys.

Why we need "comma" in the above sentence?

In a single clause, we use comma only when we have more than two "noun/verb/etc".

For example: I like tea, coffee and coco.

If that is ture, why there is a comma in the question stem with only two
items.
