How important is it to get a reference from the current manager?

I have worked for a company for 3 years. 1st year for Manager A, 2nd for B and 3rd for C. It is almost the end of the 3rd year now.

A and B have promised me references. But approaching C might or might not hurt me professionally. How important is getting C's recommendation?
