Choosing between Fulbright and going to China [#permalink] New post 12 Dec 2009, 02:10
Hi everyone!

Short background information: I am a german bschool student enrolled in a 4 year program in which I will get a Bachelor of Arts in "International Business" (first 3 years) and an MBA in a partner university of our school (last year). Among our partner unis there are some (relatively) good ones (Purdue, Portland State) and some soso-ish ones (Niagara Uni, California State..). We also have a couple outside the US, notably the Chinese University of Hong Kong (pretty good and interesting for me as they have a strong specialization on Management/Consulting.

Soo

Now, I have got a Fulbright Scholarship, however not for my favorite (Purdue), but for Niagara. And there is very little chance to change that (as in, non-existent). I am not super-excited to do my MBA there. On the other side there is a possibility of going to CUHK, which in my opinion is better in terms of quality, business contacts etc.

What I would like to ask you: Disregarding my interests, language and any other factor: If you look at it in terms of what gives a better prospect for my future (or simply, what looks more interesting on a CV..)

Would you vote for MBA at Niagara with Fulbright Scholarship or MBA at CUHK, obviously without Fulbright.

Would be very nice to have some opinions. :)

I would choose CUHK over Niagara. Here's why:
1) CUHK is a well known/ranked bschool. With China emerging as a global economic power, I believe having an MBA from CUHK will be immensely more beneficial to your marketability post MBA.
2) Niagara is an unknown MBA school in the USA. MBA is one of those degrees in which where you get your degree matters more than the degree itself. If you go to Niagara, you will be on your own finding a job and the degree is not very respected.

It's pretty much a no-brainer. Pick CUHK.
