Choosing your schools [#permalink] New post 30 Sep 2008, 13:51
Hello guys,

I was just wondering how you guys went about narrowing down the list of schools you applied to? After comparing fields, faculty, job placement, financial aid, location, and research centers I still have about 10 schools on my list. Other categories I come up with give comparable stats for all of them. I beginning to believe I might have to make my final decision based on who I want to root for on Saturday :-D Any help you guys could give me on this subject would be appreciated!

If you have a good idea of which faculty you're interested in, start reading papers and emailing/calling/visiting them. Papers are to see if you like the field they're working in and what they're contributing, and the contact is to see if you can hit it off with them. Wouldn't hurt to talk to some of their students and see what they're up to. There are also a few things that wouldn't hurt to find out about (department atmosphere, faculty reputation, etc...), but unfortunately you probably can't without knowing somebody on the inside.
