Civic Leader: The high motor neuron disease rate among our citizens is the result of hazardous material produced at your plant.
Board of Directors: Our statistics show that rate of motor neuron disease are high throughout the valley in which the plant is situated because local wells that supply drinking water are polluted, not because of the plant.
which of the following, if true, most seriously waekens the board's claim?

(C) motor neuron disease-causing chemicals used at the plant are discharged into nearby river and find their way into local wells.

1) irrilevant

2) the problem is not the communities

3) maybe or not fault by the plant

4) weaken

5) if doing so could not be fault by the plant

D is the answer

Weakening Question - To weaken the Board's Claim - we can either prove that
1) local drinking water is not polluted OR
2) material that caused the disease can affect the drinking water source.

On Reading the answer choices -

(A) Strengthens the Board's Claim by affirming that there are other reasons for disease to occur and not because of the plant.
(B) Out of Scope as what happens in nearby community is not related to board's claim
(C) Correct Choice which suggests that the disease causing material is polluting the drinking wells.
(D) Unrelated to board's claim
(E) Strengthens the board's claim that some other pollutants cause the disease, not the one produced / used at plant.

Civic Leader : Disease is caused because of the material produced at plant
Board of Director : Disease is caused because of local wells that supply drinking water and NOT because of the plant

To weaken the claim of the directors, we need some evidence that suggests that the plant is responsible for the disease.
Answer choice C does this.

Ans: c

OA please.
