Anyone have thoughts on this? Trying to get into buy-side equity research, I already completed CFA level 3. Claremont would be considerably cheaper, but would probably only place as a research associate (reverse from banking in ER). I've seen USC MBA students do summer analyst spots at some nice places like TCW, but know that it's pretty rare.

Do you have work experience? If so, try and do an MBA at UCLA, Stanford, Berkley (assuming you want to stay west coast. If you don't have WE, do the MFIN at Claremont.

Yeah, 3.5 years in Operations Wealth Management. I actually only applied to SC, because Stanford/Berkeley were a stretch. Would have applied to LA, but I was already their last round. Thx for the reply though. The people at Claremont were super nice, I can tell it will be a successful program. I think the average GMAT score of their incoming class is like 720. Insane.

Funny you mentioned TCW seeing that the founder of the Robert Day School at CMC (which sponsors the the Masters Program) is also the founder of TCW. It's also normal to see CMC students (including masters students) as well as other Claremont College students as summer analysts. You're right about the placement though--it'll be much easier to get more entry-level type jobs but if you network and cast your net wide then you have a good chance of landing higher positions given CMC's strong alumni network.

Yeah you would figure that they have an open door to TCW, but I talked to some current students and no one landed anything with TCW yet. Might be late recruiting who knows... I spoke to someone at USC that landed a Research Analyst summer internship vs Research Associate. *reversed for equity research so Analyst > Associate*
