I also think, BUT is needed here and I'll also go with C..

In option B, "but" is needed to draw contradiction and avoid "comma splice" problem.. and "excepting for" is unidiomatic.

Please confirm the answer again..

I remember coming across this problem and even i thought it was C. You're right, the correct answer is B.

Just got this question on my practice test.. picked the OA I remembered from here and was pissed it would skew my score. However.. looking at the GMATPrep OA right now .. the answer is actually C.

Just thought I'd clarify if anyone else saw this post.

Hey All,

The OA is definitely C. I don't know who said differently. The idiom "except in" is just as legit as "except for." Notice that B is a run on sentence. If we start with "except," we're opening a new independent clause.
