Columbia Business School [#permalink] New post 09 May 2008, 04:42
Hi Paul,

Been following your advice to different candidates and it seems you have a really high regard for Columbia. From your advice, it seems as Columbia is usually slightly more difficult than other similarly ranked schools. Do you feel that Columbia is slightly "under-ranked" by typical mainstream magazines (i.e. US News #9)?

If so, what are your thoughts (strength of program, placement, brand, etc).?

Thanks,

Navy

Navy,

My "high regard" for Columbia is just a function of its selectivity, not because I consider them an better than every school save HBS and Stanford (which have comparable selectivity rates). Certain schools (e.g., many West Coast schools) have formidable selectivity rankings in part because they are in desirable locations. I have to take selectivity into account when evaluating people's chances, even if I think a program's brand is overblown. But in terms of "objective" quality CBS is surely among the top 10 programs in the U.S. IMO.
