Linda-

Do you know any information about the acceptance rate for Early Decision applicants to Columbia?

As the only one of its kind (that i know of), its an interesting proposition, because if accepted I could know before Xmas and take the rest of my time to save, relax, etc.

However, do you know what the stats are on acceptance rates for this?

If its at all like the undergraduate early decision process at top schools, the chance one will be accepted, given the requirement to pay a hefty deposit AND withdraw all other apps, has to be higher. But - by how much?

Also, it's not the only one. Tuck and Wharton both have ED programs.

While some might find this to be a distinction without a difference, these schools use different terms to describe their early evaluation systems.

Columbia: Early Decision

Dartmouth: Early Action

Penn: Early Option

This is more than an exercise in semantics since the deposit ranges from $750 to 5,000 depending on the school.

The decision date for the student also varies greatly among these schools since Penn allows one to wait until May 1, Columbia has a fixed three week response time, and Dartmouth has a response date of Jan 7.

One might not be that surprised that admissions officers are cryptic about the acceptance rates for early evaluation systems considering the controversy associated with similar systems at the undergrad level.
