Hello all,

I am drafting essays for EMBA ED due Jan. Since their essay is fairly short, I want to take best possible strategy (who doesn't!).

One strategy I came up is linking three essays. For instance, in Why Columbia now essay (Essay 1), mention my passion in movie and its relation to my goal (like business manager is like director of film), but do not put detail about why movie is my passion as space is limited. Then in Essay 3, I can further explain my past experiences in movie (made amateur film in college, or tried to get into Warner Bros, but failed), and make it interesting factor about myself connecting with a goal.

Or, I can fully explain passion in movie in Essay 1, and write something else in 3.

Which one do you think would be more effective?

I am no expert, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

With regarding to essay #1: I believe the keyword is Columbia. While it's good to state your goals and passion for a MBA, it is more important to explain why Columbia MBA and not other schools. They want to know that Columbia is your first choice and you believe that you are a good fit to their specific program.

It's good to present a coherent application package, but you're given another chance to showcase and differentiate yourself in essay #3. Why waste that opportunity to talk about the similar things you talked about in essay #1 unless you believe it's compelling enough.
