Re: Columbia vs HEC Paris [#permalink]
Thank you both for the comments, it is greatly appreciated. I spoke with some more people as well and they advised that the only way to land a job at a French firm is if your French skills are impeccable. Mine are just ok at the moment, I have lost my fluency by not using it. The consensus overall seems to be to go to Columbia, perhaps do a semester abroad, and get my French skills back up to par.

Let me know if you have any additional thoughts.

Think you've got a strong course of action there.

Wait and see if you get the offer form HEC (and any scholarship decision) - if positive then consider flying out to see the program and then make your decision on that basis.

It might be worth trying to locate a CBS student who's been across to HEC? Find out what they thought of the school etc and whether they had any opportunity to recruit to French firms? They'd have an interesting perspective on it and CBS should put you in touch as an admit if you ask politely?

Thanks gcb09173, that is sound advice. I have talked to a couple of HEC alums (through the interview process) and they said the main way to get a job in France in to have perfect French language skills, so I think that answers the question more or less. I would need to seriously work on my language regardless of location of school.
