Compare to Vs Compare With [#permalink]

Hello,

I have been struggling to find correct usage os Compare to & Compare With.

The argument that Compare to is always used when comparing Unlike things and Compare with is used when Comparing simmilar things falls apart in many cases. Their has to be more concrete reason for the slection between Compare to and Compare With.

Few Examples to ponder on:

It also Incorrectly compares Male scientists with a handicap faced by female scientists

It illogically compare "the median income" to a family rather than to another median income.

Difference between the two:
A, C and D illogically compare wheat with protien and claim that the protien in rice has more protien than wheat does

B, the correct choice, logically compares wheat to rice.

Please see the difference and let's discuss.

Thanks

Professor,

My point is not to ask a particular question. The examples in my note is more on usage rather than on selecting the choices.

I am more interested in somebody telling me when to use With and when to TO and justify his thought with the examples I gave.

It also Incorrectly compares Male scientists with a handicap faced by female scientists

It illogically compare "the median income" to a family rather than to another median income

Honestly, its hard for us to analyze your questions/concerns when you post answers without the question. Sometimes the usage all lies within the context of the question.

But generally speaking, Compare To is always used when comparing unlike things and compare with is used when comparing simmilar things are right, at least from all the notes I've read

saurav,

surfacely what i know is "compare with" is used to compare like things where as "compare to" is used for unlike things. for ex: if we compare your grammar skills and my grammar skills, we use compare with. if we compare a person's cold behavior and cold days of winter, we use compare to.

i have a little note that i downloaded from here. if you wish to get, i can provide you.

Thanks all for replying. Just to tell you the above sentences or the examples given are from OG 10th Edition.

So we can ely on the correctness of them.

The examples you gave me ...are fine.

But I don't know the differences in the above sentences.

Thanks
