Easy E here. (the most difficult thing in this problem was reading the sentence :) )

We do not need a modifier here. A,B and C seem to be modifying tonsils.

However my answer is,

E - Best among the lot

I followed your method "Select the words you want to highlight and choose color"

yup.. this is a dangling modifier

completing the physical examination, ________

this modifier is modifying someone who did the investigation

correct usage- complting the PE, the doctor/ The examiner/ (or whoever did the examination) found the tonsils to be diseased

so i hope u can see what the original sentence and the other options B, C, and D mean by

Completing the physical examination, the tonsils

Completing the physical examination , the tonsils were found to be diseased.

A. Completing the physical examination, the tonsils were found to be diseased.
B. Having completed the physical examination, the tonsils were found to be diseased.
C. When the physical examination was completed, the tonsils were found to be diseased.
D. The physical examination completed was completed, the tonsils were found to be diseased.
E. The physical examination found that the tonsils were diseased.

My issue with option "E" was - How the PE can find something. It is the doctor who finds something. Hence, I selected "C" thinking that the option is an example of dependent+Independent clause.

'the examination found' is bothering me too. the result of the examination can indicate whether tonsils were diseased.

flipping C makes it sound better. why is it still incorrect?

You guys made me laugh like crazy. Hilarious off-topic humor.

"the tonsils were found to be diseased, when the physical examination was completed."
These two statements sound like two disparate events, but, in reality, physical examination revealed that the tonsils were diseased.

It'd sound better for statements such as;
When the physical examination was completed, Joe knocked the door.
When the physical examination was completed, patient took a sigh of relief.

In this case, however, "C" doesn't convey the intended meaning as beautifully as "E" does. Moreover, E is less wordy.

Ans: "E"

I'll revert back the original post to its original color, i.e. yellow. I modified it without reading the conversation. :D

+1 E

A and B seem that the tonsis have performed the examination.
D is a run on sentence.
C is wordy.

E is consice and clear.
