Computers are becoming faster, more powerful, and more reliable, and so too are modems, they are the devices to allow two or more computers to share information over regular telephone lines.
a. so too are modems, they are the devices to allow
b. so too are modems, the devices that allow
c. so too modems, the devices allowing
d. also modems, they are the devices that allow
e. also modems, which are the devices to allow

I got the answer but i do not understand the explanation. I thought we have to use "so am I' or "I am,too." And it is not correct to use "so too am I".
Can someone help me with this?

no, the answer should not be A because "they are" is not correctly used after a comma to modify "modems". You have to use a relative clause (which are, that are) or a noun phrase to modify "modems".

B for me. It correctly uses noun modifier for "modems". "so too are" is a correct usage.

Computers are becoming faster, more powerful, and more reliable, and so too are modems, the are the devices to allow two or more computers to share information over regular telephone lines.

- the first part of the sentence is being built by using words like faster... powerful.. etc...
and then when you compare modems to it, ideally you should maintain the same tone. also falls flat.
-the other options have an obvious error, so at times you just have to listen to your ears..

Thanks. But is it correct to write "Computers are becoming faster, more powerful, and more reliable, and so are modems." (remove "too")?

a. so too are modems, they are the devices to allow - they are is redundant
b. so too are modems, the devices that allow - IMO correct
c. so too modems, the devices allowing - allowing - Should not be present continous, it should be simple present tense
d. also modems, they are the devices that allow - they are wrong
e. also modems, which are the devices to allow - 'Which' should be used if you are giving additional useless information and 'that' should be used if you are giving specific information which is not useless.
