confused about which schools to apply to [#permalink] New post 04 May 2013, 04:10
I would grateful if you could please evaluate my profile and please suggest me whether the schools i have mentioned are at
par and what could be other schools where i could apply. my profile is as follows

GMAT 700(Q49,V35)
GPA 79% Computer Science Engineering
WE 4.5 years in IT(TCS) with diverse experience given below
worked in research and development team , technologies such as RFID and presently working in Insurance domain.

in research and development had the experience of working in some innovative projects such as TV Audience

Measurement in real time and Context Aware Recommender System ,both these projects started of as mere ideas

(trying to capitalize on stuff which had not been explored as of yet ) and became full projects which were

presented in front of client , the Trp project was presented infront of ACNeilson(a big advertisment company)

which helped my company win a big bid with the company and they also agreed to collaborate with us on future R&D

endeavors .Also from each of these 2 projects i have under my name 2 publications in well known international

conferences and 2 patents filed, we have our papers published on IEEEExplore and a mere search is enough to find

us there.
I was also a part of not only the development and testing of these projects but also mots of the customer

interaction as well , i was assigned form my project with the added role of presenting /demonstrating in front,

getting their feedback etc of the client due to my good communication skills .We also one the best team award for

the Trp project and got certificates for the same.

After that i have been working as a performance test engineer in Insurance domain and have been looking at the

performance aspect of our solution for not only my project but also the various projects using the same product ,

i have also worked on development, customization and also functional testing to some extent .
I have also been an active member of some clubs which affiliate in communication, debate etc and have a few

certificates .
I have been working with some important people in my organization and as i move ahead to oversee a lot more

project i am sure that an mba degree will certainly help to not only hone my skills in areas such as

leadership, consulting etc but also increase the knowledge required to take on bigger roles in organizations.

I am applying in R1 this year and want to know my chances in the following schools

1 ISB
2 NUS
3 Dardon
4 Johnson
5 Tepper
6 Ross
7 Hass
8 NTU
9 Mcombs
10 Kelly
11 Texas-Austin

please advise which of these schools to apply to considering my profile my chances ,and what are my chances and also what could be other schools to apply to.

Thanks for the help in advance

Hello there siddharth,

I'm happy to help on this. Allow me to be frank and direct, based on what you display.
First off, you verbal score is a little bit low (regardless of the schools in general), so please provide your AWA score and your TOEFL score if you have them.
You seem to have a purely technical experience (which is a good thing) but with no managerial or supervisory role; You were both on the R&T, R&D front and assumed client-facing responsibilities. All the rest of the details are not relevant to the MBA decision (as it is purely technical) , you can mention that you filed patents or got published in IEEE as these are recognized accomplishments in your field, but the rest is too detailed, so don't dwell too much on it, because it does impress business schools much.

What you explain in terms of your career intent is not "forceful" enough, and to your credit you are too early in your career to have established your long term goals so that's ok.

I'll send you a follow-up on this, but you are considering WAY TOO MANY schools and this is an issue.
Tell me more about what do you thing the MBA will bring you, and what do you want to learn to get managerial responsibilities?

Cheers,
A.C.

Hi Siddharth,

You have an avg. profile with decent GMAT, GPA and ECs. The list of your b-schools also seems to be realistic and should be within your reach. To convert your chances from application to admission you must carefully write application essays and showcase leadership qualities, achievements in or outside work place, maturity, professionalism & other aptitudes during final interviews. You may also try your chances in b-school(s) by clicking http://www.apphelp.co.in/b-school-selector.php

As you have long list of schools to apply in, I would also suggest you to start writing your application essays and devote 30-45 minutes everyday on it. This will help you in avoiding last moment rush. Let me know if you require any assistance in selection of b-schools or profile evaluation. You may PM your details to have discussion in length.

Regards
Erina
