This is a question for consulting professionals or hopefuls who have been through the recruiting process. What if I want to go into consulting but I have no experience that helps me out? I was an investment analyst at a small firm and I have the CFA level 2. Again, that doesnt seem like it helps with management consulting specifically.

I talked to a Kellogg grad who was an engineer before school and he said that it was pretty easy getting a consulting gig (in financial consulting no less). Did he get this because he is from Kellogg and firms know that they simply pump out good consultants? Anyone care to venture what he did to get the gig despite his lack of relevant experience? is it GMAT, case skills, undergrad gpa, and/or early MBA courses?
