I must admit, while I'm happy, im a little frustrated at the very late notice - a trip at this point is going to cost me a pretty penny.

Now I just gotta get my Park email (which all the admissions people tell me is on its way as soon as the server sends out the next batch) and then it will be happytimes for GMATclub Corellians!

I'd be more proactive on this. Call the park program (you can find contact info on the site), explain to them that the admissions person said you should be recieving an email invitation, but you had not recieved it. Given the tight timeline you were wondering when you might expect the email, and that given your total and complete excitement about Johnson, you apologize for being overeager, but were hoping they could at least disclose the essay question so that you could best prepare for when the email arrived.
It never hurts to show proactive eagerness.

Questions included...
Why did you major in what you majored in and chose the undergrad institution you chose?
Why an MBA now?
Tells about what makes a good manager/leader?
What will you contribut to Cornell?
Where else are you applying?
And the harder questions:
Tell us about a time when you approached a difficuly process in an innovative fashion? About a time when you "innovated?"
What 3 words do you want me to take to the adcom?
How have you improved the performance of "underperformers" in the past?
Now that I think about it I was rather "grilled." I had alot of good examples for things like the underperformer and good manager and all that... But like innovated? I had a hardtime with that so I just really switched it into a time where I turned around my team when we were poorly performing. The three words I also wasn't really ready for... one of my words was "atypical" since I think I have an atypical app... but to describe yourself as "atypical" idk... could you sound crazy.
I built some good rapport around the drive out and the character of the catskills and how my undergrad school and Cornell are pretty much final choices for those deciding between the "near Ivy's." Yes, Cornell is an Ivy, but undergrad Cornell really fits into the near Ivy's.
I think you will enjoy the visit though. Cornellians are insanely friendly and nice. They are super willing to help. It is a nice community.

I'd love to, but unfortunately will not be routing via NYC.
Ticket to Cornell: $380
Hotel on campus: $260
Cab Fare to Airport: $42
Admit Letter: priceless
I'll warn everyone now, upon my first admit, expect a completely drunk post.

I had lost faith, but it was unwarranted! I had gone back and looked at my essays and said to myself: "Really, this isn't good enough?" I kept looking at it thinking, "I really hit on everything, what was missing?" I had decided my why cornell was weak, but I guess not!!
YAY!
I'm enjoying a nice class of wine right now, sitting smug.
It was particularly fitting they should email today as my commute to work was horrific today - 2 hours 15 minutes to get there. Followed by a phone screen with a really poor candidate who should never even have been passed along. By the time I got back to my desk, I was frustrated at the long commute, a little irritated I'd wasted a half hour with a candidate, and
flustered that I had a ton to do - and by now it was almost 11am. I sat down, picked up my crackberry, and my day instantly changed.
Now to practice and prepare!

Sounds like you have had some emotional ups and downs... I certainly know what that is like... Just found out I didn't get a job I wanted last week. Just makes business school seem that much more sweet.

You dont want to work for that firm anyway. Seriously, it's a pretty harsh lifestyle.

Hopefully you, swgotz, and I will all get some good news on the 17th of Nov. Should be fairly likely
Swgotz:
9yrs work experience, started his own business, deep love for Cornell
You:
Stellar GMAT, good undergrad experience
Me:
680
3.5 undergrad from a good school
atypical profile and need for an MBA
Sounds like some nice odds all around.

I have a strong GMAT, medoicre undegrad experience, far less than your 3.5. Also fall into a somewhat aytipical profile here.

I didn't get a chance to type this earlier today, but I'm really glad your got the interview. I know that Cornell is kind of a back-up for you and being rejected from a back-up might cause you to lose all hope for your target schools, especially given all of the unknowns involved. Getting the interview invite should make you think that your assessment of your credentials is in line with what schools are looking for. So, 1/2 way to an admit at Cornell should mean you are in the hunt at Chicago and Kellogg. I'm looking forward to hearing some great news from all of you guys.
