I.e. going to company presentations, contacting Johnson alum @ McKinsey, etc, etc. Certainly - no matter where you go to school, you'll quickly realize that "networking" will be a significant factor in terms of gaining traction with a lot of your target firms. This especially holds true in banking and consulting where you'll be expected to reach out to alumni and setup informational interviews, either by phone or even in-person. Going to company briefings and office hours will generally be mandatory if you want any chance at securing an interview. The things that will set you apart from your classmates, as well as other candidates from other schools, will be the types of relationships you build with current associates and employees of the firms. Obviously, if the recruiters and hiring managers already know who you are, genuinely like you, and have taken an interest in you, then you're fairly likely to get an interview and possibly an offer. So yea ultimately, you'll need to leverage your networks (undergrad, b-school, past co-workers, friends, family, etc.) and reach out to as many people as you can. Honestly, I think this is why reaching out to current students, professors, and alums is always viewed favorably by the adcom during the admissions process, since those are the types of things you're going to need to do during b-school to land solid internships and full-time jobs. Thankfully the Johnson/Cornell alums are usually pretty friendly and helpful!

I am international applicant, residing and working in US. I submitted my application in R2 but havent heard anything from the Adcom. The application status shows as under review for over 2 weeks now. Is anyone else in similar boat? Is rejection imminent?

Is anyone else in similar boat? Is rejection imminent? Take a deep breath - the decision deadline isn't until Feb 20. They can invite you anytime up until then. Also, to beat this subject to death, don't read too much into the application status - all it will do is drive you crazy.

Hello,
One of my recommender is a Cornell Gradate, how can I make sure that adcom knows about it, as there is no such field to fill out where you can write about the educational background of your referees?

This was the case for my application as well... and I handled it by asking my recommender to include that they were in alum in the LoR. If you didn't ask, you could also mention it in the "Sources of information" section of the application where it asks "how did you find out about the Cornell MBA program?".

Dumb question, but the R3 deadline is midnight January 30. Does that mean tonight, or by tomorrow 11:59 PM?

Does anyone know if there is any differences shown on the degrees of the AMBA and MBA graduates? e.g. do they actually type Accelerated MBA for AMBAers or just MBA? I was admitted to the two-year MBA in R1, and petitioned to have a dual degree study with other non-cornell master programs in international affairs. However, Johnson insists that they do not approve dual degrees with non-cornell programs, rather, they agreed to have me as an AMBA student, in such case I can still complete my MBA degree within three semesters. Although the schedule of the study at both schools would still allow me to do a summer internship for my career switch, I want to make sure if recruiters would consider the AMBA as a different degree from traditional two-year MBA. Anybody has the information?

Anybody has the information? The short answer is: no. You'll have a degree that says "Masters of Business Administration" on it. All schools use the pitch that executive, part-time, weekend, 1-year, online etc all lead to the same degree: the MBA. Very different paths, but one resulting degree. Cornell is no different: https://www.johnson.cornell.edu/Accelerated-MBA/Key-Facts.aspx, compare with http://www.johnson.cornell.edu/Two-Year-MBA/Key-Facts.aspxBoth list "Cornell University MBA" under "Degree Awarded"

For those of you submitting applications today for Round 3 this blog post should interest you: http://www.johnson.cornell.edu/Full-Time-MBA/Admissions/Admissions-Blog/EntryId/330/Round-3-Applicants.aspxKey is that they anticipate sending out interview invites on Feb 11, but will invite all the way up until April 2 (I know the majority of you hate that). Good luck!

Visited Ithaca this week for an on-campus visit & R2 interview. Definitely the friendliest interviewer of the 4 interviews I've conducted, and dare I say, a bit fun.
It is also apparent that it is not uncommon for Johnson to send in 2 interviewers to interview you - an admissions committee specialist + a 2nd year student. Usually one of the two takes the lead whereas the other is shadowing/learning (student) or monitoring/supervising (adcom). It was actually a very cool setup and I personally liked it a lot; especially made things easier when it came time for me to ask questions as I've found it more natural to direct questions to current MBA students about their ongoing experiences.
Ithaca was a lot more hilly and remote than I had anticipated. I'm really curious what it's like outside of the snowy/colder days as I did hear a lot about how gorgeous the area was. Unfortunately, the weather and the large campus sort of gave me an impression that the campus/town was kinda ... not that alive. But inside Sage Hall was an entirely different story.
Also, our tour guides and the subsequent information session were probably the most insightful resources of any of the other sessions/tour guides I've had. Just very honest answers, no sugarcoating, and extremely open to all questions and providing very comprehensive stories & experiences, whether diving into the recruiting process or offering their honest take of the culture.
3 more weeks and then I'll know whether I can formally take off my crown as the Waitlist Guru. The dream... is still alive. Good luck to all my fellow R2 applicants ~
