Countdown to GMAT 12/20 [#permalink] New post 06 Dec 2012, 13:31
Alright so this is going to be my study diary which I shall use to chronicle my day to day progress.

I was previously scheduled to give the GMAT on 11/29 but because of my poor showing on my first MGMAT Prep I have rescheduled it for Dec 20.

I am doing this so that I can have some accountability on my part and stay motivated during my prep.

Where i stand today,

GMAT Prep - 640 (Q 42, V 34)
MGMAT Prep 1 - 620 (Q 38, V 35), horrible timing, guessed 10-11 questions on Quant

Materials covered

VERBAL

Sentence Correction

Theory
  • MGMAT SC - Done three times already, finishing up on a fourth pass
  • Aristotle Prep - Just done with it

Practice
  • Kaplan Advanced SC questions - Two passes on these questions, 65% accuracy
  • Kaplan Verbal Workbook - 80% accuracy
  • OG SC - Two passes, 85% accuracy on the last pass
  • Aristotle Prep - 83% accuracy, would have been higher but missed 6-7 idiom questions

Next steps
  • Second pass on Verbal 2nd edition, review incorrect questions from Kaplan Advanced

Reading Comprehension

Theory
  • Implemented my own approach derived from Rhyme's
  • Reading articles on NYTimes and a few books

Practice

Next steps
  • Hit the GMAT verbal book, finish this up
  • Complete the remaining OG RC questions

Critical reasoning

Theory
  • PowerScore CR - 2nd pass
  • Weakness - Assumption and EXCEPT/NOT questions. A few weaken questions

Practice

Next steps
  • Review assumption and weaken questions

Target - V 42+

QUANT

Problem Solving

Theory
  • Review inequalities
  • Review coordinate geometry

Practice
  • One more pass on OG PS

Next steps

Data Sufficiency

Theory
  • Review topics from PS

Practice
  • OG DS questions

Next steps

Target - Q 49+

Haven't touched IR yet.

Not really concerned about AWA at this point. Chineseburned's format seems to work well.

Morning session
  • Finished up Aristotle Prep SC and reviewed the mistakes
  • Worked on 40 OG RC problems

Evening session
  • Finished up OG RC, still @ 80-85% accuracy..hmm. Got a bunch of detail questions wrong, guess my skimming needs work.

First session
  • Reviewed the RC mistakes from yesterday
  • Wrapped up GMAT Verbal RC
  • Did 53 Verbal SC questions, 6 wrong - Reviewed the mistakes, missed an obvious parallelism error, darn..
  • Made a few more flash cards, Instead of vs Rather than, that vs about.

Once I am done with the Verbal guide, I will have officially exhausted all my verbal prep material. Need to revisit my error log and go through those questions in order to fine tune my apporach

Second Session
  • Watched a Thursdays with Ron video; the topic was verbals, -ing forms, gerunds and participles - Good stuff!
  • SC questions for the Verbal guide done - 92% accuracy
