CPA (or equivalent) vs MBA for financial management [#permalink]

So basically, I know that I don't want to go into anything PE/HF/investing related 100% and would only consider M&A potentially. Given this, I was wondering whether a CPA or an MBA is more worthwhile for someone looking more at getting on the CFO track at a large F500 company (obviously it'll be tough to become CFO at a company that huge, but my goal is to start there, get as far as I can, then exit to a smaller company as CFO)? I'd also consider corporate development for a large company very seriously, so can a CPA help me out there, or is that pure MBA type of stuff?
Finally, in case MBA is the right answer, does it have to be at the absolute top schools like one needs to do for PE/HF and even IB/MBB consulting? I'm definitely looking at T15 and maybe a couple of strong regional programs as well, but on the off chance that I don't get into an M7 school, how disadvantaged would one be going to UT-Austin/UCLA, for example, instead of Kellogg or Columbia?
Thanks a lot!
