I would appreciate if you could help me evaluate my profile:

I am a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner with 3 years of public accounting experience. I work as a senior associate at a local accounting firm and am looking to enter a decent MBA school. I graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a degree in accounting (my GPA was below 3.0).

What kind of GMAT score do I need in order to be considered for MBA schools, and at what point will work experience and my CPA/CFE outweigh my GPA?

Hi seth439,

Thanks for posting. With regards to a GMAT score, it really depends on the business school you are aiming to attend. You should look to score at least the average GMAT score that the program reports. Are there any particular business schools you are looking at?

To answer your other question, as you progress in your career your work experience will become increasingly more important than your undergraduate record. However, you may also want to address your GPA in your personal essays. Here is a case study of a candidate with a sub 3.0 GPA who was accepted into both Columbia and Chicago Booth:
