D. if the director of "Big..." had worked with the director of "Thives", then it is possible to have similar plots and charactors in these two movies and no body can balm the director of "Big" for the similarities he he might have developed the similar techniques as those of the director of "Thives".

A) It weakens
B) If similar plots... were used in many movies, one particular production firm 'the thieves' can't accuse the other of stealing ideas.
C) Irrelevant
D) How does this help? This will only give rise to speculation.
