Approximately two hundred brands of personal computers are being manufactured, but we currently limit our inventory to only the eight most popular brands. We plan to increase greatly the number of computers we sell by expanding our inventory to include the ten best-selling brands.
Which of the following, if true, points out a major weakness of the plan above?

(A) The capabilities of three most popular personal computers add to be approximately equivalent, with no brand having consistent superiority in all respects.
(B) The seven most popular brands of personal computers account for almost all computers sold.
(C) As the users of personal computers become more sophisticated, they are more willing to buy less well-known brands of computers.
(D) Less popular brands of computers often provide less profit to the retailer because prices must be discounted to attract customers.
(E) The leading brand of personal computer has been losing sales to less popular brands that offer similar capabilities for less money.

Profit is irrelevant here- the issue is whether the measure will lead to an increase in sales

why not B...

B basically surmises that even with the expansion, the two additional products will not account for a significant increase in sales..

Nevermind...I see how B is irrelevant now.. the top seven sold make up the majority sold within the orginization, it doesn't neccissarily mean that adding two additional products won't increase sales..

I think its B

Here is why
From the stem we have

We plan to increase greatly the number of computers we sell by expanding our inventory to include the ten best-selling brands

B proves that that this strategy will not achieve its objective.

B is my answer. When 7 brands can do the job, why should the seller go for 10 brands, unless he is interested in creating a museum?

Straight B. Their plan 'to increase the number of computers sold' solely depends on expanding our inventory to include the ten best-selling brands. But option B shows that at present their computers sold are because of the best 7 and they don't even require their 8th one.Hence expanding from 8 to 10 is a major flaw to acheive their objective of increasing 'number of computers sold' and not 'profit'.
