CR Bible not helping at all [#permalink] New post 14 Feb 2008, 09:06
I have read a lot about CR Bible and bought the book. But I don't see any improvement in my CRing. I am read about 3/4 th of the book.

Even the sample exercises don't have more than 6 questions per question type.

May be I'm not using this book as others.

Would you guys tell me how this book benefited you (if it did) and how did you read it? (several times? memorize it? etc etc)

Thnx

the book is too much for GMAT CR. i have the LSAT and the GMAT bibles. i read that book and did the entire CR section in OG11 and got 4 or 5 wrong.

all u need to do is clearly identify what the question is asking and clearly understand the structure of the stem. everything else is common sense. i think this is the only portion of the gmat that tests intelligence. everything else, such as RC is just a skill acquired over time.

Well, I'm close to finishing it now. Might as well finish it. But considering the efforts that I have put in, I don't see the outcome as much.

If it's not helping you improve, it's not worth finishing. Know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different outcome. ;-)

Seriously, though. Try a different book. I liked the techniques in Princeton Review's book and would recommend trying those. I didn't even know there was a CR bible but I did fine with PR.

I think CR is terribly difficult to teach. What I've tried to do is

#1 read the questions stem
#2 find the conclusion (most times it's there) <-- spend a few seconds doing so, sometimes it's not always so obvious
#3 find the supporting statements, it's a lot easier if you find the correct conclusion. If you have found the wrong conclusion, that's the beginning of the confusion.

Identify and tweak the evidence (supporting statements) and/or assumptions (unstated, of course) to strengthen/weaken the conclusion.
