My choices were between A and E. Can someone refute E with a powerful explanation. I am quite convinced on the fact that A has better information to support the conclusion.

A it is...cool one Srijay.

E is out because...it sounds as though even without the child factor, their marriages could be in trouble (that they need to be 'encouraged' to stay put together). Meaning, when no child in the first year does not guarantee that the 'marriage will be successful'. This directly contradicts the author's theory.

But, I was thinking on C too. However, C is extraneous. Need to improve my thinking a lot. 8-) 8-)
