Please give explanations with ur answers......
At the end of the year, Wilsons Department's Store awards free merchandise to its top salespeople. When presented with the fact that that the number of salespeople receiving these awards has declined markedly over the past fifteen years, the newly appointed president of the company responded, " In that case, since our award criterion is present is membership in the top third of our sales force, we can also say that the number of salespeople passed over for these awards has similarly declined.
Which one of the following is an assumption that would allow the company president's conclusion to be properly drawn?
(A) Policies at Wilson's with regard to hiring salespeople have not become more lax over the past fifteen years.
(B) The number of salespeople at Wilsons has increased over the past fifteeen years.
(C) The criterion used by Wilsons for selecting its award recipients has remained the same for the past fifteen years.
D) The average total sales figures for Wilson's salespeople have been declining for fifteen years.
E) Wilson's calculates its salespeople's sales figures in the same way as it did fifteen years ago.

(A) Policies at Wilson's with regard to hiring salespeople have not become more lax over the past fifteen years.
Out of scope
(B) The number of salespeople at Wilsons has increased over the past fifteeen years.
We cannot say this for sure.
(C) The criterion used by Wilsons for selecting its award recipients has remained the same for the past fifteen years.
ANSWER. If the criteria has changed then the number of people falling in the top 33% bracket will fluctuate.
D) The average total sales figures for Wilson's salespeople have been declining for fifteen years.
We cannot talk about this. May be it is increasing and the margin in the top one third is less.
E) Wilson's calculates its salespeople's sales figures in the same way as it did fifteen years ago.
The criteria is top sales and not how the sales figures is reached at.

Ans:C
Unless criterion remains same ... we can not say any thing about number of sales people. it is most important assumption.

The conlusion that the number of salespeople passed over for these awards has similarly declined is valid only when the criteria for the awards remain the same. Thus, C is the best bet.

(C) it is, (Negate C and argument falls apart, what if the criteria has changed, then the number of people eligible for the award will vary. Also (E) is out of scope as we don't know what was the criteria, where as E assumes that criteria for selecting top salesperson is the sales made him/her.)
(Wonder why "boksana" refered it as CR Twister, am I missing something!!)
