crack d GMAT [#permalink] New post 14 Sep 2011, 17:00
Hello Guys,

Booked my gmat date on 20 Oct. At present working, but can give 3-4 hrs weekday for prep. My problem is :

I have taken Princeton - 610
Veritas - 560
One of classes test - 580

My Analysis:

Quant- I get 4 - 6 incorrect in first 15 qustns. I also miss out the very important words in question which leads to incorrect ans. Practiced OG and other resources, but still I cannot break into 42 - 50 bracket. I feel I am weak in Probability, not 100% sure with rate problems & PnC.

Verbal - I could manage only 50% of correct ans. for RC. Sometimes I get 3 incorrect ans. which affects my score badly. CR I get around 8-9 qustn correct out of 12 or 14. The ones which I get wrong are to choose between 2 options after elemination.
My SC score fluctuates a lot. There are times where I get only 3 -4 incorrect, but sometimes I even screw in SC.

How do I go about improving my score. I feel my prep is not going in right direction hence, there isn't much of improvement. I've read somewhere that giving many tests improves your score. But it isn't hapng in my case. I need a clear plan & strategy to crack d GMAT within 1 month.

Awaiting your valuable inputs !!!!

Hey Priya,

Everone does silly mistakes. So dont feel bad about them.

You have 1 good month in your hand. I would suggest starting with conceptual perp. Find out the pattern in your wrong answers and work on them. Spend 2-3 days brushing up quants basics and english grammer. Then try answering problems without time limit. Concentrate more on accuracy than time. Once desired accuracy is achieved in 1-2 weeks, take full exam.

Solve 10 problems from each section everyday and spend good amount of time analyzing your answers..

Good luck girl!!

ha ha... I kinda thought your name was Priya too... :)

Anyway, that's not important...

Well, taking a lot of tests does help improve oneself but only if enough time is devoted to finding weak areas and strengthening those areas as you move from one test to another... The simple act of taking a test will not contribute to your betterment.

Also, I would recommend you studying the work-rate concepts before you move on to P&C.

This is because P&C/Probability problems come at higher levels and not at the easy-medium level. Work-rate problems can come at any level. Therefore, by learning how to do work-rate problems, you stand a better chance of improving your score.
The thing with P&C/Probability is that there are only limited number of concepts. However, there are very many ways of applying those concepts. One can improve in P&C/Probability by doing problems of different types. The main aim is to cover as many varieties as possible. It's more of an experience thing.

Regards,
Entwistle
