Criteria for phd(business) selection in USA [#permalink]

Hi,
Am writing in from Gurgaon, india. I have a MBA from an average institute in india followed with 6 years work experience in marketing communications and team management. I have also an entrepreneurial mindset and have set up multiple teams/ new product launches etc during my corporate career. However am now preparing for GMAT and look forward to pursue Phd in Marketing because i want to teach.Am also convinced that marketing communications can be done better and would like to research the same. I have some teaching experience as volunteer but no prior research experience. Does this hurt my candidacy for phd admissions? I have shortlisted 15 institutes in The USA from the top 60 universities. Anybody wants to share their selection story? How important is the GMAT? Am expecting between 650-700 since i have prepared only for 9 weeks.

Hi, I am also planning for PhD in Marketing in USA. Currently, i am studying MSc Marketing Management in Lithuania and my final semester is pending. But before final semester, i want to give GMAT and that is why i am coming to India next week to study for it and hoping to give exam in January 2012. That means, when i finish my MSc in June 2012, i wont have to spend time for GMAT.
I am from Chandigarh but i think the exam center is in Gurgaon. To be honest i am very new with the GMAT and PhD structure and trying to learn more about it. As far as i know, most of the schools looking for 650+ score with TOEFL/IELTS. I am more interested in studying in Illinois. Could you please share the list of schools you have been looking for.
