These questions are starting to bother me more. The princeton review strategy is to identify the assumption before looking at the answer choices for strengthen/weeken/assumption type of questions. I am finding out that, unless the assumption is easy to identiy, I am having trouble with figuring it out (within reasonable amount of time) before looking at the answers.

I am curious to know if the folks that have achieved over700 scores used this strategy.

The assumption is an unstated piece of evidence that is nescessary for the conclusion to hold. Since it's unstated, don't bother looking for it in the passage. The passage usually contains only premise and conclusion. What you should be able to identify is the conclusion. When you argue to strenthen or weaken an argument, you will be attacking the conclusion. When you're asked to pick an assumption, it should be to support the conclusion.
