Critical Reasoning [#permalink] New post 09 Apr 2010, 06:45
Youngsters aspiring to find a place in Tinsel towns soon realize that chasing a dream and achieving it are fraught with disappointments, failures and numerous travails. Majority of such aspirants go without any financial security or recognition for years. But when interviewed Jackie Chan has this to say : "If actors fail to make it big, they have only themselves to blame."

Chan's statement echoes the rationale that :

A. Actors, who persevere, achieve.
B. Performers who master a craft, scale heights
C. Directors may shape an actor, but the actor ultimately finds his own place
D. Nothing can take anything from you, if you don't allow it to happen
E. Any creative craftsman takes time to evolve

I am a bit confused between the options B & D...Can I have a detailed reasoning on this one please??

From passage=>"If actors fail to make it big, they have only themselves to blame."

B. Performers who master a craft, scale heights
>> This does not talk about how you show yourself big. It just talks about mastering a craft. This will not guarantee to scale high.

D. Nothing can take anything from you, if you don't allow it to happen
>>Passage talks about who fail to make it big. This option fits well with the 'fail to make it = don't allow to happen'

D is the best fit. Hope it helps.

Why can't it be A? I don't like any of the answers.
