Hi,

My weakness is in DS, especially unknowns containting exponents, or exercices with many unknowns, as well as the sneaky questions containing many integers...

I am taking the test on tuesday, and if anyone has some good rules or strategies to remember so I can save some time - PLEASE throw it out here!

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I can share few things which have helped me

1) Before going to the statements - first paraphrase, rearrange, interpret and simplify the question to get the real question ( there is always something hidden ) - if you do this in many cases it will throw up the answer in either statement 1 or 2 itself

2)when you start interpreting statement 1 and get stuck - glance over to statement 2 and you many realise in somecases it is exactly what is needed to make statement 1 sufficient - you can confidently say that statement 1 by itself is insufficient

This doesnot mean that statement 2 is insufficient but it allows you to quickly move to statement 2

Hope this helps.

This might be inherently obvious, but one thing I try and do if I am unsure on a DS question is to see if one of the two statements is a masked/blatantly reiterating the same information as the other question. If you can somehow get this to occur (and it is actually the case, obviously), then you have a 50-50 chance of getting the question right by picking between answer choice "D" and "E".

Have you looked at the Manhattan Number Properties book? I use to dread them too, but it that book helped me tremendously. Since your test is on tuesday I would watch the Kaplan Youtube Video below since its gives a simple DS Strategy to work with. Also beware that you dont get psyched out when you DS Qs. They are just like math questions and part of the test psychology is to scare you. Just think of it as PS question thats hidden in words. Its your job to rephrase(the techniques described above) to draw out the meaning.

Take a look at these resources:

http://www.platinumgmat.com/gmat_study_ ... properties

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FrJfs59kHM This Kaplan Video shows the DS Method I use when Solving DS Problems. Its called 12TEN.

Also here is some information to review your the prop. of exponents.

Lastly heres a link to the GMAT Club Math Book
