Current Oxford Students/Recent Oxford Grads [#permalink]

hi guys...i'd like to get an idea of how the job market has affected the recruiting on campus as well as the job offers out there. oxford has been quite vague about its 2008 employment stats, but it seems that just about 2/3 of the graduates received an offer within 3 months of graduation. that is a very low number compared to other elite schools... i'd like to hear you guys' opinions on this, as i will be visiting and interviewing at oxford next week and it's currently one of the top programs on my list, but i am quite worried about the relatively low employment stats and the lack of transparency in their placement figures. for those of you that are working in London or are planning to, does the oxford name open doors? are there active recruiters that come to oxford? how tough is it competing vs. other powerhouses like LBS or INSEAD? please share any experiences/views you guys have. thanks!

please share any experiences/views you guys have. thanks! Hi Dr, I will keep this short. Week 5 and things have really heated up at SBS. To answer your question, yes last year was tough, although many still got jobs. I think it was tough everywhere. This year things have started to look up *touchwood*. Companies come to campus virtually everynight and students have also started interviewing. Only time will tell how many people actually get job offers. BUT one should be aware that we are still in the crisis, although things are improving, times are still tough. Many employers have just disappeared (aka Lehman Bros, etc) Oxford, like all top schools, surely opens doors. Networking opportunities are abound and the Oxford name is attention grabbing. I've got many anecdotes of this, but for obvious reasons I can't go into details. right, off to do more job apps. buff

Hello, now that we are in March 2010, has anyone heard any more details about the recruitments at Said in 2009? There's no update on the website yet, though the '3-months after graduation' period is over.
I have heard conflicting reports about placements on campus - so any comments on how far the career services office helps? Or are we dependant only on personal networking?
I suppose current graduates would not be able to comment on names of specific companies which come on campus, but any help would be appreciated.
