Currently people in the United States eat, on the average, 1,431 pounds of food per year, 35 pounds more than in 1980. This increase is, at least in part, because people between the ages of 15 and 64 have accounted for an increasing share of the population. Which of the following can be properly inferred from the passage above? (A) More than half of the current population of the United States is between the ages of 15 and 64. (B) The population has risen since 1980. (C) Children below the age of 15 require, on the average, more food than do people over the age of 64. (D) Before 1980 children below the age of 15 outnumbered people between the ages of 15 and 64. (E) Individuals between the ages of 15 and 64 consume, on the average, more food than do those younger or older.

Currently people in the United States eat, on the average, 1,431 pounds of food per year, 35 pounds more than in 1980. This increase is, at least in part, because people between the ages of 15 and 64 have accounted for an increasing share of the population. Which of the following can be properly inferred from the passage above? (A) More than half of the current population of the United States is between the ages of 15 and 64. Incorrect as the stem says.... atleast in a part.. hence more than half can be too much to infer....(B) The population has risen since 1980. This won't change anything.... it would nullify the effect on increase of the avg food anyway...(C) Children below the age of 15 require, on the average, more food than do people over the age of 64. Irrelevant.... this makes little or sense.. as we have info only of the category between 15 & 64(D) Before 1980 children below the age of 15 outnumbered people between the ages of 15 and 64. It talks about before 1980... which makes a little doubtful (as it could 1970 too)... had it been 1980... I could have considered this as my answer... but for now rejected(E) Individuals between the ages of 15 and 64 consume, on the average, more food than do those younger or older. The only surviving option.. although not very convincing... but can be termed as the best option. Since this accounts for the increase in the avg food....this would be the best to infer..A little doubtful on this one.... but IMO E....! Wats the OA?

ages of 15 and 64. = the q/stem says "atleast in part" so drop
(B) The population has risen since 1980. = nowhere in sentence this is implied.
(C) Children below the age of 15 require, on the average, more food than do
people over the age of 64. = down
(D) Before 1980 children below the age of 15 outnumbered people between the
ages of 15 and 64. = down
(E) Individuals between the ages of 15 and 64 consume, on the average, more
food than do those younger or older = as the question says, the avg lb increase is at least because of these ages.
