What is the Value of (a-b)?
1.a2 - b2=9
2.a2-2ab+b2=1

Book Answer (E).

stmnt1 - a2 - b2=9 => (a-b)(a+b) = 9 => we don't have value of (a+b) so we can't find (a-b). hence insuff
stmnt2 - (a-b)^2 = 1 so (a-b) is either +1 or -1. hence insuff

taking together we have (a-b) as +1 or -1 and (a-b)(a+b) = 9 which is not sufficient. so E
