Hi there,

Thanks for so much info! It definitely makes my response that much more useful. I'm not going to spend a lot of time discussing your profile at a high level - you have some great experience and extracurricular involvements. Your academics are strong to boot and there really isn't anything I would point as a concerning weakness. How you package it all together, however, will be important. You have a lot of interesting pieces and fitting them into a compelling story is going to be something you should spend time and thought on. Especially because you are interested in a broad based career goal (i.e. consulting).

FYI - your long term goal will need to be adjusted. I would strongly advise against mentioning that in any essay. Remember, your short and long term goals have to be ambitious yet realistic. I'm not saying you CAN'T be the CEO, but if you come out of the gate swinging with that, it's going to come across as ill-formulated and immature.

Based on your profile and where you want to go, you have a good set of schools. Obviously, you can't apply to that many schools (or, at least, I hope you're not planning to!) so let's talk a little bit about which are better suited.

Reach: you're right to think the Kellogg's and MIT's are stretches. They are by nature of the program. However, if you're looking to go into general management, I would recommend you add Columbia and Booth to that list. I would say choose 2 from this list.

Fit: this is a diverse set of schools you've chosen here. I would say go with Tuck (I know you had it in Reach but I think you have a decent shot there), Duke, and/or Johnson. Darden may not be the match you think it is. UCLA is a great program but if you're going to general management / strategy, there are other better options. We can get more into that if you'd like but I think you're better off selecting 2 or so from these other schools.

Safety: If you're going for consulting, you need brand. That means you need to stay top 20. That eliminates some of your schools here right off the bat. I'd say stick with Emory and UNC.

I hope that helps and classifies as the positive and encouraging response you were hoping for! :)

Let me know if you have any questions - happy to chat with you!
