Deferring Deposit Date [#permalink] New post 04 Jan 2008, 22:31
Hey Guys

I have been admitted into the Smith MBA program at Maryland. They want me to submit the deposit amount to hold my seat by Jan 17th. I applied in R1.

I plan to ask for some time beyond 17th jan to deposit. Their website said that they will have decisions by jan 15th for the 1st round. Just because they provided decision early, does it entitle them to ask for a deposit as early as 2 days from the decision deadline. Many applicants have planned their applications based on what they mention in the website. I am awaiting for some decisions early feb. I assumed that if they provide a decision on Jan 15th, then they would ask for a deposit by Feb 15th and so I would have all decisions by then. The main issue is that they did not have any info on deposit deadlines on their website. I plan to call them on this

any suggestions??

First of all, CONGRATS on the admit! :)

wow, that's a bit inconsiderate on the school's part to ask for a decision within 2 days of the notification! I personally have never heard it happen before! I would definitely call them and politely ask them to give you more time to evaluate your options to make the most educated decision. If they can ask you to wait months for their decisions, they should be able to wait a couple months for yours.

For your reference, UCLA asks for deposits by april 15th if the decision was released before March 1st (i.e. R1).

Hope that helps!
