what this "his" refers to?


I thought it is clearly refers to the candidate, thats the only singular noun besides rebuplican party, which cannot be refered as his.....

Yes B is correct.

His referes to the candidate they chose.

was hesitating between B and C

then realized C is not good because 'its' is not clear:
is it Republican Party or Republican Party convention ?
