Question Stats:
50% (01:37) correct
50% (01:56) wrong based on 2 sessions
Demographic studies show that hispanics in the united states have established communities in every region and in most large cities of the country but that they have been so selective that half of them live in only ten metropolitan areas.
A. same
D they are so selective that half of them live only in
B, C AND E are all nonsensical stuff.
For me , there are two issues. First, is "that" required after but and second, out of "live in only" and "live only in" which one is correct and why?
I will provide the OA soon.

I'll go with A for the reason that hispanics were selective when they established their communities. It was at that time that they chose what cities to live in

The word 'that' should not be there in the beginning.
Also, 'live only in' suits better here.
On the abovementyioned two points, I feel D is the right answer

(A) for me,
first you need "that" to correlate the things!
Second, "live in only" is correct because the sentence implies that so many people live in only 10 cities, while "live only in" won't imply the same!!

OA is A.
For the that thing, i might agree that it maintains parellism but why is live in only is preferable to live only in .. i still cannot understand.

A, my answer. need to maintain parallelism. ...show that...but that... further, Half of them live in... is better than Half of them live only in...

I am as perplexed as the group...anyways, let us quickly see which one of the sentences look ok to further debate the 'live in only' and live only in' issue..
A. I like to live in only Africa and Middle east
B. I like to live only in Africa and Middle east
What would u guys vote for - A or for B?

Only can be used as both adjective and adverb. In "live only in", only modifies live, but in "live in only major city" can modify "live in" or "major city" so the latter expression is mabiguous. therfore, "live only in" more preferable.
