First of all, my husband is almost done with his phd (not accounting). So far he is competitive on the job market. I, on the other hand, will finish my master degree in Acct at the same time. And my story is that I quit my job in my country abt 2 years ago to accompany my husband, ending up going to a small school for master degree. Before that I think my background looks OK.
The dilemma for me is whether to go to a NOT top phd program or to find a job. My honey may get a faculty position in a small town (Albany) where has another school that offers Finance & Acct program - Rensselaer polytechnic institute. Assuming that I can get in, the program seems more towards finance, while my background is all about accounting. Is it worth to go to a program like this? Or should I find a job and start over again? (feel like I may have to start from entry level despite my work experience) Right now I am more interested in phd than job, unless there are interesting jobs, eg. analysis/consulting-type.
Sorry that I told my story in such a messy way...I really feel lost recently. I suddenly don't know what I should do in the future. I want to have my own career and achievements, but I don't think I have the guts and ability to pursue something and ask my husband to sacrifice for me.
Can you guys give me some advice regarding applying for phd programs? Is it possible for me to get into some good programs? (And hopefully there's job positions for my husband)
I sincerely appreciate any constructive advice!!!!!
