I think Detroit needs to come to terms with the fact that the "big 3" auto companies won't be the dominant industry/employer in that city anymore. Since it seems like they have a pool of both white- and blue-collar workers, they need to work on attracting new industries, otherwise those people are going to be out of work for a long time.

I think they are trying with innovative clean energy start ups in that state.

Isn't there a commercial on CNBC all the time, advertising Michigan starring Jeff Daniels?
