Diagnostic score from GMATPrep [#permalink] New post 21 Dec 2012, 11:50
So I'm planning on going all out with my GMAT prep as I want to apply to Harvard 2+2 in a few months (I'm a graduating senior at a top school).

I just took the GMATPrep Test 1 without any prior prep (although I read a few tips on this site)

My score:
IR: 7
Quant: 43 (64th Percentile)
Verbal: 44 (97th Percentile)
Total: 710 (92nd Percentile)

It looks like I did really good for my first try with no prep (although it looks like my Quant score isn't that great)? I ran out of time with the quant and had to make educated guesses for the last 5 questions or so at the end but I had about 4.5 minutes left over with the verbal and still got most of the questions right so it looks like pacing is my biggest issue. How accurate is this test??

Starting with this as a baseline, how much can I expect to increase my score with 1.5-2 months of intense prep (MGMAT guides, OG 13, etc)? I'm on winter break right now so I plan on spending a few hours a day on this.

1. Yes, that is a very good score for your first test with no prep.

2. GMATPrep is probably the most accurate in terms of correlation to actual GMAT score.

3. As far as improvement from here, the sky is the limit (well, 800 is the limit). Improvement is dependent on a lot of factors (how quickly you learn the material, timing strategy, nerves, etc.).

HImba88 is completely correct: that's an awesome starting score. And I'd argue that it's even better than it looks, since the verbal was extremely strong, and that's often the toughest section to improve in a short time frame. You clearly have more than enough talent to do incredibly well on the verbal, and I'd bet anything that you'll be able to pull that quant score up substantially in a couple of months. Even if you hold steady at a 44 on the verbal, you'll be in spectacular shape.

Keep us posted!

Thanks GMATNinja.

Another bit of advice, listen to whatever GMATNinja says, he's an 800 scorer!

Awesome. Thanks for the advice guys. Great to know I'm on good footing. My Verbal section of the SAT was a 790 (out of 800) and the quant was a 710 and I think some of the old SAT prep helped out (the sentence correction stuff is very similar, for example).

I'll let you guys know how I do.
