Diagnostic tests dilemma - GMATPrep vs Manhattan GMAT [#permalink] New post 08 Jul 2012, 17:09
Hey all,

I took the GMATPrep practice test last weekend and scored 630 (36 in quant and 39 in verbal with a 42 and 87 percentile respectively). I studied for a week and took the Manhattan GMAT free practice test today and scored a (very shocking) 540 today (31 in quant, 34 in verbal, with 37 and 72 percentile, respectively). I am quite confused and am wondering what my real level of preparation is.

I have registered to take the test on September 19, so I still have time. But a 90 point drop in score in less than a week is def not normal (right?). Can someone explain why this might have happened? Is the GMATPrep test generally easier than the Manhattan GMAT one? The score today left me quite anxious! :(

Thanks a lot in advance.

My advice is to try not to worry about it. The GMAT Prep tests are considered the MOST accurate tests because they are brought to you by the GMAC, the creators of the GMAT. So I would put much more trust in that score. Also, the free practice test from Manhattan GMAT, I don't even believe that is an adaptive test... as for right now, you should concentrate on studying hard, learning from your test mistakes, and getting yourself a reliable set of practice tests. Free tests (other than the GMAT Prep) tend not to be the greatest tests out there.

Here are list of practice tests out there so you don't lose confidence in their reliability: all-gmat-cat-practice-tests-links-prices-reviews-77460.html?fl=menu

Good luck to you!

Thanks a lot for replying.

That's reassuring. I started preparing about a month ago and started taking tests last weekend. I plan to take one each weekend. Do you think that's a good idea or should I start taking tests only once I am done with my preparation?
