I did in usual way.. pretty lengthy one...

Dick -> increased by 8% of 3000 = 240 , so Dick share in 1990 will be 3240.
Jane --> decreased by x% of 3000, so Jane share in 1990 will be $$3000(1- x/100 )$$

$$3240 + 3000 (1- x/100 ) = 5000$$

$$1- x/100 = 166 / 300$$

x= 41% (approx)
