Did it take Pei more than 2 hours to walk a distance of 10 miles along a certain trail? (1 mile = 1.6 km, rounded to the nearest tenth).

1. Pei walked this distance at an average rate of less than 6.4 km per hour
2. On average, it took Pei more than 9 minutes per Km to make this distance.

I thought the answer was A but I was wrong....can someone tell me why also 2. is true????

2)

>9min/km ==> T>9[1/60*hour/km]*10[miles]*1.6[km/miles]=2.4 hours

The answer is D.
for 2, convert 10 miles into km. and then multiply the total kms with 9 minutes and then divide what u get by 60, to get the answer.

i think it should be D.....although i must admit I cheated slighty by using a calculator to verify :(

stat 1 ... i picked a few values for the average speed, from which the time = 16 km / avg speed ... whatever number i picked, i always got a time greater than 2 hours. to verify, i used 6.39999, and still got less than 2. so it seemed sufficient

stat 2 ... picked values again. started off with 9 minutes, and you get 9*16km=144 min, and then moving up , the amount of time just increases, so sufficient as well
