Difference between admissions in Fall Term and Spring Term

Hey guys,

Now that I am going to apply for b-schools, this question is continuously bothering me. What is the basic difference between the fall and spring term. I read on columbia's website that for January session they don't have an internship option so as they can merge the classes for Spring and Fall term. Can anyone provide any clear distinctions between these two terms, if there are any or does that change from school to school ?

The regular Full time (2-year) MBA starts at end of August/early September, so students have an opportunity to do internship in summer between year one and two. Some schools offer intensive (1 year) MBA that usually starts in May such as Kellogg, Emory (Columbia in Jan). Those students do not have opportunity to do internship as they will be in summer classes to cover the core courses.

As I recall, from top tier schools and Inside the US, Columbia is only to have in Jan. From outside US, INSEAD has Jan intake.
