Different scenerios for division/mult and decimal place? [#permalink] New post 08 Apr 2013, 16:31
Could someone list different scenerios of where to approach the vantage poitn of decimals in different scenerios?

1. 64/1600
1a. 1600/64.4
2. .0064/.08
3. .02x.22

Any more combinations of these with decimal place big number small number on top or bototm? You could just use your own examples instead of mine if you want

I'm sorry, but, what exactly is this?

Please write clearly and succinctly what you are looking for.

Some general guidelines:

Get rid of the decimal point especially if it is in the denominator.
1600/64.4 = 16000/644
.0064/.08 = .64/8 or 64/800

Bring the fraction down to simplest form
64/1600 = 4/100 = .04
16000/644 = 4000/161 now approximate it (very unlikely to see in the actual exam)
64/800 = 8/100 = .08

When multiplying decimals, multiply the numbers ignoring the decimals and later add the decimal point
.02 * .22
Multiply 2 with 22 to get 44. Decimal point should be 4 places to the left so you get .0044.
