Topic selection is the first step towards writing a management dissertation. It is an important decision that will determine your entire research. When choosing your management dissertation topic, you will find that there is no dearth of ideas. The problem mostly is that there are too many ideas to choose from. Too many ideas keep you running from one topic to another. However, a few guidelines can help you decide which management dissertation topic is the best for you.
Look at management dissertation topics that cover a smaller aspect of an idea rather than an idea that would require research on a very grand scale. Choose a doable topic, an issue that does not cover too much area. You do not want to end up with an over-ambitious project on your hands which you find hard to complete. You must keep in mind that when you are writing your research proposal format, you have to convince your dissertation committee that your research will contribute to the business community.
Make sure that the topic you select interests you. Select an idea that you would like to be involved with. Your management dissertation topic should not become a drag to you by the time you are occupied in the research. You should be comfortable with the topic you have selected.
Select a topic for which ample information is available and for which elaborate analysis can be done. It is better to select a topic which yields results from secondary research. That means you will be looking at data that has already been used and as such is available readily.
Read samples of other management dissertations to see what kind of topics have been submitted most often and otherwise. Take a look at some samples of literature review example, methodology example and dissertation bibliography too. Read dissertations that have been recommended as well as those that have had no favour. This will give you an idea of a good as well as a bad example.
Once you have decided on your topic, it will be at the back of your mind at most times. Note down all ideas that come suddenly. Discuss your topic in and out with yourself, your study circle, your faculty. Note their ideas too. If you do not agree with them, think about why you do not do so and vice versa.
Life moves pretty fast in the business sector. Make sure that the topic you select is relevant in the present. There is no point in researching about something that does not even fit into a modern period. For example, studying the impact of e-mails on organizational behavior may be a staler topic than studying the impact of cell phones on organizational behavior.
Choose a management dissertation topic that makes you confident and inspires you to go ahead with all the hard work involved in a management dissertation. Selection of a suitable topic will begin your success in all the later stages of your management dissertation writing.
