Whether you should make the move or not depends on what your post-MBA goals are. If the hedge fund position is more in line with them then it might be a good move. If not, then moving to a hedge fund in and of itself would not necessarily impress the adcoms. What they are more interested in is a trend of rising responsibility level and leadership. If staying at your current position will enabe you to show 'fast-track' growth in leadership and impact then no need to leave for the sake of getting into B-school. If joining the hedge fund will give you more leadership and responsibility than it might strengthen your admission odds (provided it's in line with your goals). Of course, you need to weight these admissions factors against the risk and your sense of loyalty to your current firm.
