700...How are my chances? [#permalink]
17 Oct 2010, 11:50
OK, I finally took the GMAT! Ended up with a 700 (42Q/42V) and expecting a 5.5. or 6.0 AWA. SO relieved to be done with that ordeal!
I told myself that, if I scored 700+, I would apply to more competitive programs. As such, I've narrowed my selection down to the following 9 schools:
Uber Elite Harvard U. Penn
Elite Northwestern Yale UCLA
Almost Elite Emory Georgetown UT-Austin USC
Is 9 too much? I don't want to tire my recommenders, and need to make sure I have enough time to make each application great.
Would appreciate any thoughts and help!

Have you also looked at Cornell Johnson? Cornell has a strong reputation in the hospitality industry and has a huge network out of school as well. Beside that, if you can get 680+ on GMAT, i really don't see much of a problem on your list, except for UCLA and Yale, which tend to attract people with high numbers.

As right now, assuming yo get the right GMAT score, 680+ I'd say hell yeah you have a chance! Edit: He added Harvard later, I mean you have a chance at a good school with this post

Thanks guys!!
As for Cornell...great program, but unfortunately not a fit for me personally. My wife is applying for her PhD at the same time I am for an MBA, so we've narrowed our prospective lists so that we have a strong chance in the same locations.

Man those schools are tough, Kellogg would be the "easiest" lets wait till you get the score before we start jumping overboard. Bear in mind that even if get a 720 you will be about average at those schools, the GPA will bring you down a tad. Its not a lost cause but even w/ 720 those schools are tough for people with 3.9's !
